Shin'zen

Real-world touchstone: East Asian courtly culture crossed with Renaissance guild-craft — masks, titles, invention.

Once a scatter of tiny rival city-states, Shin'zen was unified by a religious order devoted to three gods of craft and creation. In exchange for peace, the order granted nearly everyone some minor title — so a Shin'zeni introduction often opens with polite, probing questions about lineage and rank. Shin'zen is famous for invention: clockwork, precision lenses, alchemical wonders, and (if rumor holds) the first crude black shot ever assembled anywhere. Its people come in every hair, skin, and eye color imaginable, and its fashion favors elaborate masks over hats — a skilled mask-maker is treated like a minor celebrity.

A Shin'zeni legionnaire may be quietly proud of their homeland's cleverness, and more than a little amused (or offended) by how primitive most of Alberetor's tools look by comparison.

Naming a Shin'zeni Character

Shin'zeni use a given name and a house or lineage name, frequently paired with an informal minor title in daily conversation (omitted here for brevity, but easy to invent on the fly — "of the lantern-quarter," "Third Prince of a village of forty").
