Nordheim
Real-world touchstone: Norse/Germanic clan cultures — sworn oaths, cold country, fierce independence.
Nordheim lies in cold mountains and rugged tundra, home to fair or red-haired, pale-skinned clanfolk who answer to no crown but their own. Nord society is built on the clan: tight-knit, fiercely loyal, and bound together by oaths sworn over blades and sacred trees said to house a watching (if silent) god. Nords have a reputation for stubborn independence and don't much care whether outsiders find that admirable or exhausting.
Within Alberetor, this same flavor of clan-and-oath culture is at home among the northern barbarian tribes — a legionnaire raised among them carries that same weight of blood oaths and hard-won loyalty, whether they hail from the frozen north beyond any map or from a clan much closer to home.
Naming a Nord Character
Nords use a given name followed by a patronymic or matronymic (father's or mother's name plus a suffix), and often pick up a earned moniker later in life. Roll or pick a given name and a parent's name to build the patronymic/matronymic — add a moniker as the story warrants.
| # | Given Name | Parent's Name (for patronymic/matronymic) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vikei | Boryev |
| 2 | Kariya | Eley |
| 3 | Thoren | Gundar |
| 4 | Eyrsa | Halvad |
| 5 | Brynolf | Ostrid |
| 6 | Ravenna | Skarnag |
| 7 | Ulmark | Tordis |
| 8 | Solveg | Fenrik |
| 9 | Halmund | Vestra |
| 10 | Ingrit | Draumar |
| 11 | Kelgrim | Ostenna |
| 12 | Aslinn | Roggvar |
Example: Vikei, child of Borye, becomes "Vikei Boryevich" (son) or "Vikei Boryevna" (daughter). A moniker like "One-Eye" or "Fire-Hair" may be added once earned.
