Character Flags
From Dungeon World - kind of? Character flags are behaviors or actions on your character which other players can trigger to encourage specific character role-play or conflicts. These types of flags can be particularly effective in encouraging character interaction and in shaping the narrative.
They encourage players to engage with each other's characters in ways that align with their envisioned personalities or challenges. They can lead to interesting conflicts, character growth, and memorable moments in the game.
You can think of flags as "permission to behave badly" in some cases. A flag on your character may be explicitly giving other players permission to challenge your character's bad behavior or world view, with an eye toward advancing your character's own particular arc.
Character Connections and Bonds
From Ironsworn, Starforged, Dungeon World, all over the place
In Ravensmoore I encourage creating bonds between characters during character creation, similar to the Dungeon World bonds, even just a short evocative sentence with no deep detail will help with roleplay.
Sometimes I will go around the table and ask a question, "Player Name, one other character here saved your character's life when you were younger. Who was it?" That kind of thing.
I will often try to set up these character connections and bonds as tracks or clocks if the game supports such systems, so that when engaging with each other's flags, the track can be advanced, towards some benefit when the track is full.
